What do you enjoy about Crook AC: I enjoy the social side and getting to spend time with a lovely mix of people.
What’s your favourite Race? I haven’t done many races, but I did really enjoy the Sanddancer 10k, a gorgeous run out along the coast at South Shields finishing with family and members of Crook waiting for me to cross the line.
Proudest moment as a Crook AC Member: ooh, can I have two? Firstly, giving it a go at the Hetton relays . Although I was genuinely petrified as I’ve never done anything like this, the support and encouragement was enough to push me out my comfort zone and run as part of a team. Secondly, going from a 3hr 11 min half marathon in September 2023 to a 2hr 31min half Marathon at the beginning of March. The weekly sessions supported my training and the celebrations from the club afterwards were amazing!
How/why did you end up joining the club: As a self confessed ‘plodder’ I wanted to join a club to improve speed and technique; but also running on your own round country roads gets pretty boring so wanted to run with others. I did try other clubs and activities but joined Crook as the format allows you to run at a pace that is comfortable for you without pressure. There is a clear pathway for development and pushing yourself (if this is what you want to do); and there’s encouragement from club members to work to your full potential and try new things. There is also some lovely folk there if you fancy a gentle plod, a chat and to make some new friends. 🙂
