About Juniors

Crook & District A.C. is an athletics club which includes running, sprinting, jumping, and throwing. The focus for our Junior section is on youth development and holds training sessions at Stadium 2000 at Shildon on Thursday evenings for one hour starting at 7.30 p.m.

Improvement works were carried out at Stadium 2000 at Shildon during 2020 which included a re-laid track and a new throws cage. Stadium 2000 is now one of the best athletics stadiums in the North East of England.

Our junior groups start from 8 years old. All training sessions are supervised by our volunteer Coaches who are qualified through the England Athletics coach education programme and go through all the relevant security checks.

Young athletes will, in general, follow a recognised pathway as they progress and develop with focus shifting from multi event-based training for younger members, with the emphasis on having fun and enjoyment, through to more event specific training as they progress into the older age categories.

Young athletes have different abilities and develop at different rates. At Crook A.C., we encourage everyone to aim to achieve personal bests and try to be the best young athlete they can be.

Our Junior members have many opportunities to represent the Crook A.C. in competitive events throughout the year. Our membership is provided with information about competitive events throughout the North East of England.

Our Junior Section has a small group of parents who also volunteer and form our Parents Committee. This group support our Coaches to organise teams for competitive events and the day to day running of our Junior section.
