NECAA Open Track & Field meeting – 20th August 2023

What a cracking day it was on Sunday at our very own Shildon Stadium. Despite the heavens opening just as the meeting got underway, the weather soon turned, and it became a fantastic summers day. Summer, remember that?
Overall, it was a really well attended meeting, which can only work in favour of Shildon being used more next year. People (Athletes, Officials, and spectators) could not believe how good the facility is compared to the more regularly used facilities, with one senior official saying “we need to make better use of facilities like Shildon moving forward”. So here’s to hoping for a couple of meetings at Shildon in 2024.
In terms of how we did as a club, it was a fantastic turnout first and foremost. We had 17 entries across a range of track and field events, from 11 members with some from our junior section too. I’m normally on my own at these events, so it was great to see more Crook AC vests. There was also a good number of non-competing club members there to cheer us all on. I hope you all saw how fun and inclusive track and field can be.

There’s some uncertainty around the future of Gateshead International Stadium, so this may be the last opportunity to run there. We have a couple already signed up.
