Dewsbury 10K – 4th February 2024

by Rob Teasdale

Dewsbury is a very popular early season 10k which fills within days of entry opening.

It’s an out and back course and is predominantly a decent route, ever so slightly going uphill out but then downhill coming back so if you’ve got plenty left in the tank it’s a good race to gain a good time. It’s been kind to me in the past with PBs gained here so I was hopeful of the same again.

Joining me from Crook were John Firby, Kieron Day and Wayne Pearson. Caroline should have also been on the start line and was vested up but has been struggling with a high hamstring problem and made the wise decision not to run and make it worse after feeling it in the warm up.

It’s an early start at Dewsbury so we were on our way at 9am and I felt really good in the first mile. I was confident of a PB but you always have a target in your head too so I settled into a good pace. Firby and Kieron came past and I tucked in behind them and the three of us worked well together on the out section.

The third mile is the most uphill of the them all but you can soon gain it back once you turn and mile 4 proved to be my quickest of the race.

I’d felt really good but coming into the last mile a strong headwind made it really hard work and having been with Kieron and Firbs I was unable to keep with them here. Push on I did though and was really happy to cross the line with a new PB of 34.15 taking 38 secs off my previous effort.

If you thought that a good then Kieron ran a huge PB taking over a minute off his previous best which was ran at Ribble Valley just over Christmas time, ducking under the 34 bracket in doing so.

Firby ran well also going under 34 mins again while Stan was pipped to the post in the V55 stakes but still ran a cracking time to continue his good form.

See results below and a couple of photos captured by Caroline.

Well done to everyone.
