Charles Stuart Memorial Open – 30th April 2023

I was back on the track on Sunday, this time at Middlesbrough Sports Village in the Charles Stuart Memorial Open meet. I entered in the 1500m, and was placed in heat 1.

It was a warm and windy morning, which made this a little harder. I won’t complain too much considering what some of our members we’re up to at the same time elsewhere!

Once the gun went I hit the front, and a small group sat just on my shoulder. I lead the pack round the first two laps in 2:18, about where I wanted to be, but I was still in front setting the pace by myself. For anyone who’s raced on a track, knows that being the pace setter for too long is bad news. Eventually on the 3rd lap a couple of youngsters took the lead, but we’d already lost abit of time and clocked a 76s 400m which I knew had ended any PB possibility with 300m to go. I was hanging onto the leading pair going round the final bend and I kicked on down the home straight to cross the line in 1st place. I clocked 4:25.4 which isn’t a PB, but after my experience/performance four days earlier, I was just over the moon that I had abit of fire back in me.
